What is Harvest Flame?

The Harvest Flame Process
The Process #1
We take raw biomass and heat it to in excess of 300 degrees to dry the material, kick-starting a thermal reaction to break
down the hemicellulose contained within the plant structure.
The Process #2
This in turn produces an energy rich gas which is burned to sustain the reaction with no additional heat
input, known as an autothermal reaction.
The Process #3
After this the product is cooled, blended with our existing products and briquetted.

Our Kiln Dried Hardwood Logs are sustainably sourced, ideal for stoves (as well as being suitable for chimeneas and open fires), and are dried to less than 20% moisture. This carbon tax free fuel source has a high heat output, long burn time and low ash for steady and smokeless warmth.
Our logs are 100% natural and the wood is sourced from sustainable, managed woodlands. They are specially treated in a unique kiln drying process to ensure consistently dry and clean logs in every bag.
Our Seasoned Logs are soft wood and are sustainably sourced. These everyday logs are easy to light, smokeless, carbon tax free and available in woven bags. Seasoned Softwood Logs are suitable for stoves, chimeneas and open fires, bringing the natural smell and magical crackle of a burning wood fire to your home. We are converting wood, rushes and other biomass to a high energy, high density, and greener fuel.
Kiln Dried Firewood
Our Kiln Dried Logs are soft wood and are sustainably sourced. These everyday logs are easy to light, smokeless, carbon tax free and available in woven bags.

Kiln Dried Kindling
Our Kiln Dried Kindling packs are ideal for stoves and suitable for chimeneas and open fires. They are tightly packaged in an easy to carry and store bag. This quality kindling is quick to light and compared with other types of kindling, delivers a high heat and long burn time, for an easy to start and sustainable fire.
Our Kiln Dried Kindling undergoes a unique kiln drying process to ensure consistently dry and clean kindling in every bag.

Glossary of Terms
Biomass
Biomass is all biological material derived from either living or recently dead plant or animal organisms. In the context of energy production, biomass is classed as a renewable resource and usually refers to plant material.
Torrefaction
Torrefaction is the process of heating biomass in the absence of oxygen, similar to the way that coffee is roasted. This removes chemically bound oxygen and gives a fuel with higher energy content and improved combustion properties.
Hemicellulose
Hemicellulose is a natural polymer found in biomass along with cellulose and lignin and is the compound most readily degraded by torrefaction.
Pyrolysis
Pyrolysis is the process of heating material (in our case biomass) in the absence of oxygen to make char-type products. Mild pyrolysis conditions (200 – 300°C) are used for torrefaction and higher temperatures (400-500°C) used for producing charcoal.
Autothermal
The torrefaction reaction is exothermic, meaning it generates heat. This heat can then be re- used in the process to dry and sustain the reaction without any other external source.
Creosote
When wood is burned incompletely in a fire (i.e. when it’s wet), tarry smoke or creosote is formed and condenses on the inside of chimney flues.
