Using Harvest Flame Ash as a Garden Fertiliser
Harvest Flame is made from biochar, which we create using olive stones. The ash from Arigna Fuels’ Harvest Flame can be beneficial in the garden, but it must be used correctly to avoid harming plants.
Please note: Harvest Flame is NOT coal. You can never use ashes from coal fires in this way. They should not be spread on the garden.
The Benefits of Harvest Flame Ash
Nutrient Boost
- Harvest Flame ash contains potassium (potash) and phosphorus, essential for plant flowering and fruiting.
- It provides calcium, aiding root development and plant health.
- It also contains small amounts of magnesium and phosphorus to support plant growth.
Soil pH Adjustment
- Due to its alkalinity, Harvest Flame ash can help raise soil pH, beneficial for neutralizing acidic soils.
- It is ideal for crops that prefer alkaline soils, such as brassicas (cabbage, broccoli), lavender, and fruit trees.
Pest Deterrent
- Sprinkling Harvest Flame ash around plants can help deter slugs and snails, as they dislike crawling over it.
- It works best when dry, so reapply after rain.
Compost Enhancer
- Harvest Flame ash can be added to compost to neutralise acidity and improve decomposition.
- Only use in moderation—too much can reduce microbial activity.
Here’s how Harvest Flame ash can be used effectively
Please note: Harvest Flame ash should not be used in your garden if you have burned anything else besides Harvest Flame in your fire.
